Hydrobromonic acid is an aqueous solution of hydrogen bromide and is a strong acid. The concentration of saturated hydrobromonic acid at room temperature is 68.85% (mass ratio).

Hydrobromic acid is an aqueous solution of hydrogen bromide, whose pKa is −9, which is more acidic than hydrochloric acid, but weaker than hydroiodate. It is one of the strongest inorganic acids. Hydrobromic acid is mainly used to produce inorganic bromides, scavenge alkoxides and phenols, substitute hydroxyl groups in the substitution reaction, and addition to olefins. It can also catalyze mineral extraction and certain alkylation reactions. While producing organic bromide, the organic chemical industry produces a large amount of hydrobromic acid waste liquid. On the one hand, the waste liquid has complex composition and is difficult to deal with; on the other hand, direct emissions are seriously polluted to the environment. Some of them are used to prepare bromododecane, but the effect is not ideal. Commonly used preparation methods include: hydrogen bromide gas method, erythrophosphorus bromide method, concentrated sulfuric acid/hydrobromic acid method, hydrobromic acid/ Solid superacid catalytic method, where concentrated sulfuric acid/hydrobromonic acid method is an ideal method for synthesizing brominated alkanes. From the perspective of industrial synthesis, the smaller the amount of hydrobromic acid, the better, to reduce the pressure of wastewater treatment and reduce production costs. In addition, the higher the conversion rate, the better, because dodecanol is easy to emulsify, resulting in difficulty in separation. Through a large number of experimental studies, it was concluded that the use of tetrabutylamine bromide as a phase transfer catalyst for the preparation of bromododecane greatly accelerated the conversion of hydrobromic acid and greatly improved the yield.
